Before They Are Gone

A 24-Piece Endangered Species Mini Series by James Powell

"Before They Are Gone" is a collection of 24 acrylic mini paintings highlighting endangered and vulnerable species from around the world. Each piece captures more than the likeness of the animal, it captures presence, dignity, and the fragile beauty of a life that may not always be guaranteed.

These works were created to slow the viewer down. To look into the eyes of a tiger hidden in grass, a polar bear standing on thinning ice, or a bat navigating the night sky, and feel something personal. The series is not meant to overwhelm with statistics, but to reconnect us emotionally to the living world we share.

Through bold color, expressive linework, and intimate scale, this collection serves as both tribute and reminder that conservation is not abstract. It is immediate. These species are here now, and our choices help determine whether they remain.
